Convict Class: Old-School Punk Fury from Down Under
Hailing from Warrnambool, Australia, Convict Class is a four-piece punk band that’s as gritty as they come. The lead singer has a voice that kind of sounds like a pirate, and I like that—it adds a raw edge to their sound. You can tell by looking at these guys that they are lifers; they've been in it for the long haul, and they wear it well.
Convict Class takes heavy inspiration from iconic bands like the Sex Pistols, Anti-Nowhere League, and Stiff Little Fingers, but with more of a heavy rock guitar sound. They have songs about not being famous, a wank sock and fun one about
conspiracy theories. I don’t think the boys are flat earthers.
The boys brought their ear-blistering A-game to the Rebellion Festival, unleashing a relentless set on an audience that thrives on authenticity. Their performance was very well received, filling the room to capacity. The band truly seized the opportunity that the Rebellion Festival offered to make their mark—and they did just that.
It is no easy task to get a crowd singing along to songs they'd never heard before—but that's just what Convict Class accomplished; the lyrics were pretty catchy. One line in particular, stood out. "Oi, we're Convict Class, if you don't like it, you can kiss our ass!”
In a world that often feels sanitized and commercialized, Convict Class is a reminder of what punk was always meant to be: raw, unfiltered, funny, and unapologetic. Convict Class is definitely a great Rebellion Festival discovery.
