Rebellion Fan Spotlight: Cat, Queen Of The Rail

For our next Rebellion Spotlight, there’s a member of the Rebellion Family that I felt should be included. With her charm, enthusiasm, and true love of the bands, the fans, the staff, and the festival itself, she embodies the true spirit of the Rebellion family and Festivals. Allow me to introduce Cat Moss.

Every photographer at Rebellion took a few snaps of Cat last year – some of us more than a few. Much like Steve Stanners, she is a repeat-attender and a fixture on the rail. I don’t know how many times I’ve turned around and witnessed Cat jumping up and down, perching herself on the rail, leaning as close as possible to the band or the speakers. I recall seeing her last year front and center at the Subhumans, Cock Sparrer, Discharge, and Sham 69 at the very least. Cat is hard to miss at well over six feet tall, beautiful, charismatic, friendly, and with a very distinctive look. She loves the music so much that I don’t think she even sees us all flashing and clicking like the paparazzi. She is a concert photographer’s true dream fan.

What is your name, age and where are you from?

Cat Moss. I’m 54, nearly 55, and grew up in Falmouth Cornwall UK. Born up-country somewhere.

Are you coming to Rebellion this year?

Yes!

How many times have you been to Rebellion?

Flippin ‘eck lordy knows!

What years, and was it Rebellion under a different name or in a different place?

I’ve been at Morecambe when it was Holidays in the Sun and Wasted then Rebellion at Blackpool. Don’t think I went when it was originally in Blackpool.

Do you attend the festival with friends or family?

Either just me or friends, and with my partner, Rat, of course in later years.

Is Rebellion your favorite big fest?

Yes!

Why?

It’s a bunch of similar-minded peeps all together, and most locals are ok with it.

What makes Rebellion different from other festivals?

I feel comfortable there and most security guys know me which is fab. They know my idiosyncrasies, which is phenomenally important to me. Probably the first all-dayer I went to.

Who is the band or performer you want to see most this year?

I’m very supportive of a brilliant band, Eryx London, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing them play. Marillion, Out of Interest. All my lovely friends that play. It’s hard to see everyone. We’re so spoiled

Do you have a favorite Rebellion memory that you can share?

I have loads. Right, there’s two of late. Last year I had a fabulous time with one of my best buddies. He’s a four-year-old and we had a blast. The other was when Dod Morrison, head of Rebellion’s photography department, heard I wasn’t allowed to be up on the barriers at the front. He took my hand rapidly, took me to the head security guy, and said this girl means no harm and is fine getting up on the barriers. All was fine. I don’t do it for attention, it’s about totally enjoying the band and music.

Do you enjoy Buckfast? Do you have a good or funny Buckfast story?

Never drunk it so no memories with it.

Who put on the best performance of all time?

Oh, I think me dressed as a beer bottle for Dun2Def.

Who put on the best performance last year?

I don’t know about the best, there’s so many and so many bands I’m so privileged to know. Last Tree Squad and the RDF was an absolutely awesome experience.

How many sets were you on the rail (in Front) for last year?

Ugh! I don’t know. You count, you’re the one with the lens.

Do you have a favorite Pub in Blackpool outside the winter gardens?

Churchills

What is your favorite venue inside the Winter Gardens?

Anywhere where there’s a fab band playing. Oh, and when the Empress is near empty and Don Letts is DJ’ing and I have the whole floor to dance on (that was a few years ago).

Is there anything you would like to say to Dick Lucas?

Hi, it’s me again. Where’s Trotsky, I need a drumstick.

Do you have any tips on things to avoid at Rebellion or in Blackpool?

Avoid the Trendies

Do you feel it worth the time and expense to come from a far away country to attend Rebellion?

Oh yes.

Is there anything you think people should do or see in Blackpool outside of Rebellion?

The ‘sea’, sand and get an ice cream.

Tell people why they should attend the Rebellion Festivals.

Hearts and Souls go into this festival. The work behind the scenes is phenomenal, all round. There’s no better festival!
