As of late, I've been encouraging people to write for me—not just because I'm lazy, but because I find it fascinating to hear from REAL fans. The people of the RAIL, those who will wait hours and spend their hard-earned money to see their favorite band. I feel their stories often capture the true spirit of the music. They have also proven somewhat popular, according to the click counters at In Spite Magazine. As a result, we've decided to continue this trend, now dubbed by an editor.

SUPER FAN TALES FROM THE RAIL WITH DICK SLAUGHTER PHOTO.

This time, I was and still am looking for someone to write about the Rebellion Fringe Festival that takes place in Blackpool, England, before, during, and after the Rebellion Festivals. Instead, I was contacted by an American from the Pacific Northwest who wanted to share about her love of the Rebellion Festivals and why she travels almost five thousand miles to attend and I thought that sounded good. I could add photos and it would be fun. and it has nothing to do with the name Tales from the Rail.

-Dick Slaughter: It didn’t until I changed the headline, love, The Editor.

This guy with the blue mohawk was looking for his photo a year ago; I can’t find the email. Please tell him they released it and to contact me.- All Photos by ©dickslaughter.com

Meet Maria C

For years, I have attended Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas on and off since 2015, and more consistently in recent years. It’s a celebration of community: meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and sharing moments with strangers. Everyone is there with one goal in mind: to have fun and not be a jerk. Pretty simple. However, this article is about an even greater party:

the rebellion festivals

Blackpool’s Rebellion Festival shares the same sense of community as PRB but, in my opinion, it is more welcoming due to the international crowd it attracts. In Europe, punk rock is considered a relevant genre, so people tend to be more open and have less to prove, creating an intoxicating atmosphere for just having a good time. Or, as the kids say these days, “ vibe” on the people and music. Also, in my opinion, In the United States, punk rock has never been fully accepted, which sometimes leads people to puff up to be taken seriously. With new subgenres of punk rock emerging weekly, forms of punk are “making a comeback,” though punk never truly left. Being somewhat involved in the music industry, I’ve seen many differences between the scenes.

I come to Rebellion because I don’t have to worry about anything other than having a good time with strangers from around the world. How cool is that? Regarding cost, I’m a “you can’t put a price on memories” kind of person. This year, I’m traveling with some of my best girlfriends who wanted to join because of how much I’ve raved about the fun

The feeling of absolute bliss is surreal at times. This community is why I live and breathe. The openness, like-mindedness, and welcoming arms have never been matched anywhere else in my life. Saying I feel lucky doesn’t come close to how I feel about finding myself in the punk rock world and at the biggest punk rock party I’ve ever experienced. I love this scene.

A good friend of mine, Allie Riot, the singer of a sexy, fun punk band called The Wild Jumps, based out of Portland, OR, said it best: “If you have nowhere else to go, punk rock will always accept you.” That’s why I continue to come back to the Rebellion Festivals and spend time with this community, for it truly is a community.

See you in Blackpool
