25 MOHAWK PHOTOS FROM THE REBELLION FESTIVALS

I was asked by the overlords at In Spite Magazine to send in my 10 best mohawk photos from Rebellion, and I thought it sounded like a fun and easy way to promote the festival. However, as I started going through years of photos, I realized that there were so many great ones and thought about doing one hundred (they said no). I managed to narrow it down to twenty-five, plus one bonus of our favorite Rebellionite, Steve Stanners. So, I can link to his interview from last year. I hope you enjoy them!

Sometimes I am asked how I get punks to let me take their photo. I ask them, and since punk can smell punk, ninety nine times out of a hundred they say yes. If it’s a candid shot like the one below, I usually have already photographed that person, so I already have implied consent, or they are someone I know. Additionally, working with the venue or band, or being in a public space, helps.

I saw these two at Punk Rock Bowling as well-All photos were taken at the Rebellion Festivals by @dickslaughter.com.

There is still time to make your plans and get to Blackpool for Rebellion! Passes are still available, and this year’s lineup is, as always, packed with must-see veterans like The Stranglers, The Subhumans, Cock Sparrer, Stiff Little Fingers, and Steve Ignorant. Additionally, there are incredible up-and-comers like the Knuckleheadz from Whittier, CA, 18 Fevers from Seoul, South Korea, and Orange County, CA, Convict Class from Australia, and the London tour de force Jo-Jo and the Teeth, among over three hundred bands. Don't miss out.

If you have not been to the Rebellion Festivals, it's hard to understand the scale and scope of this massive event. The key is in the name—Rebellion FESTIVALS. Held at the Winter Gardens entertainment complex in Blackpool, England, Rebellion features six stages with over 300 bands. In addition to the music, there are art shows, a literary stage, and hundreds of vendors. The festival attracts around 5,000 punks, with each venue within the complex offering a unique festival experience. It's a vibrant, multi-faceted celebration that truly has something for everyone.

Outside the Winter Gardens, the seaside resort town of Blackpool embraces the Rebellion punks with open arms. There are pub shows, some free, held at venues all over town. Since public drinking is legal in England, the entire area around the Winter Gardens becomes a meeting and congregating place for punks attending Rebellion or just enjoying what is called "fringe." The town transforms into a vibrant hub of punk culture, where music, camaraderie, and the spirit of the Rebellion Festivals spill out into the streets, creating an atmosphere unlike any other.
